Who we are

Bioregional was founded as a charity and social enterprise in 1994 by Sue Riddlestone OBE and Pooran Desai OBE, two environmental entrepreneurs based in South London, who wanted to develop more sustainable ways of living.

We created our One Planet Living framework in 2003 from our experiences of planning and working with others to develop the multi-award-winning BedZED eco-village in South London, where our headquarters was based between 2002-2022.

Using this learning, we provide a range of sustainability consultancy services that make it easier for people to live sustainable lives within the planet's boundaries by:

  • helping major developers create pioneering eco-communities
  • supporting businesses, including retailers, to create sustainable products and services
  • delivering projects with communities around the world to enable them to take local climate action and build their environmental resilience

Our on-the-ground experience and creative thinking now spans five continents.

Your new role – what’s involved? We’re looking for a Consultant to join our Sustainable Places team – a group of passionate, mission-driven professionals working with local authorities, developers and communities to shape places that are fit for the future. Your primary focus will be on net-zero local planning, helping to ensure that local plans and new developments genuinely deliver on the climate emergency. This means working on everything from carbon impacts and evidence-based development to policy drafting, plan examinations and implementation support. We have built a strong reputation for our work in this area, and we have a growing pipeline of projects in this space, particularly supporting local authorities in developing robust net-zero carbon policies and evidence for their emerging local plans.
