Job Description

Experienced Trade Mark Attorney or trade marks solicitor (part time; 3 days/week)

Bates Wells

This is a unique opportunity to be part of the development of the trade marks practice at this highly- respected city-based firm with a strong and unique ethos.

The firm

Widely regarded as a pioneering firm, our approach is strategic, practical and commercial, and is characterised by a willingness and ability to challenge and innovate.

Most noted for its work in the charity and non-profit field - our clients include household name charities, international NGOs, family and corporate foundations and social enterprises – Bates Wells also has a burgeoning reputation in the field of more conventional commercial work.

As the first UK law firm to be independently certified as a B Corporation, our commitment to positive social impact lies at the very heart of our business. We are a firm for people creating positive impact and we have an agreed set of values consistent with our purpose, ensuring that we provide a uniquely friendly, supportive and flexible environment.

The role

In line with our growing client base, we are looking for an experienced trade mark attorney or solicitor with excellent legal and analytical skills, to become an integral part of a small and closely-knit

team. We are ideally looking for candidates with five or more years’ PQE, though would consider

applications from outstanding candidates with fewer than this. A following would not be expected but would be a real bonus.

The role will see you working as part of an in-house dedicated trade marks team, alongside three experienced attorneys, plus support staff. You would, after an initial period getting to know the firm and its clients, work on your own caseload with minimal supervision. You would also play a key role in the team’s business development activities.

The role is unique in that the majority of the work is for our charity and not-for-profit clients. However there is also a growing commercial sector clientele, many of whom are within the impact economy sector. This is a bona fide and unique opportunity to use your skills and experience to make a real difference.

We are committed to flexible working. The firm is, like many others, currently working entirely remotely, though it is anticipated that a mix of home and office working will become the norm over time.
