We're looking for a Data Quality Analyst to join our team in London as part of our Strategy function.

Our approach at Ascential is to become ‘one business’ (rather than a collection of standalone businesses) and to increase our focus on using data to drive decision making in Ascential. This allows us to exploit economies of scale across the portfolio and has given rise to the opportunity to create a brand new Data & Insight function. The function has now been created and consists of cross-brand Data, Insight and Research professionals and in-brand Data & Insight specialists. The cross-brand team supports on a project basis and develops replicable systems, processes and technologies, while the in-brand specialists focus on  advising our brands on how to grow faster and more efficiently through a true understanding of the businesses and markets they focus on.

This role will work across all of the Ascential brands, reporting to the Head of Data Governance & Quality.

The role will work collaboratively with other Data Stewards in some of the brands that will also form part of the wider support of Data Quality.

The right candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, with a real drive to see data be managed as a highly valuable business asset. They will feel comfortable holding people and teams to account and ensuring data quality trends can be measured and demonstrated effectively.


Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting the Head of Data Governance and Data Quality in the day to day activities of maintaining adherence to the excellence framework of processes
  • Ensuring standards and policies are reflected through the enterprise data catalog
  • Ensuring data is qualitative and fit for purpose in accordance to the business use
  • Managing metadata and data catalog processes to ensure proper use of data being read, created, collected, reported, updated or deleted
  • Providing guidance and support to the data owners and subject matter experts to ensure the data catalog is maintained and up to date
  • Working closely with data owners (senior stakeholders) and subject matter experts to ensure the data catalog is complete
  • Creating business data definitions for the business glossary and appending to the catalog once approved
  • Work with data owners to establish business data quality procedures and processes are created for each data asset to detect quality and integrity issues affecting the known use of data
  • Create ongoing and detailed evaluation of data quality, the identification of anomalies and discrepancies and contribute expertise to understand root cause and corrective measures required
  • Providing data evaluation information to Change Teams to identify end to end impacts of the change against how the data used and lifecycle
  • Create and maintain the data quality scorecard
  • Take an active role in the data excellence framework to feedback on existing practice and recommend improvements


Your Experience

  • Highest degree of personal and professional integrity and strong work ethics
  • Self-motivated to acquire understanding and knowledge of Ascential’s use of information and technology
  • The ability to interpret and communicate policy or business rules to end users
  • A good facilitator, negotiator, enforcer with ambition to perpetuate the adoption of the data excellence framework within the business functions
  • Collaborative working skills to extract information by questioning, active listening and interviewing
  • Detailed level of understanding of relevant statutory frameworks applying to data excellence such as the Data Protection Act and GDPR
  • Results orientated to ensure change and delivery project metrics are meaningful and supported with robust business data
  • Proven experience of working in a Data excellence Framework and a Data Quality Management service
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Advanced skills working with spreadsheets to macro level, primary programming language such as SQL, the ability to read and understand database schemas and non-relational systems
  • Comfortable presenting complex data flows and relationships to non-data peers and colleagues.
  • Keen eye for detail with a genuine interest in understanding the journey data travels along
  • Ability to work on own initiative within agreed boundaries
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage conflicting priorities
  • Ability to work with technical and non-technical staff
  • Be authentic and apply integrity and commitment to be the best
  • Working across finance, web analytics, CRM, marketing automation and content analytics
  • Can demonstrate previous experience where analytical outcomes have driven business improvements, and the impact these have had financially
  • History of promoting customer analysis with the ability to use analytics to understand the impact of activity on the customer
  • Worked in B2B subscription or event type businesses is desirable but not essential
  • Presented complex insight outputs to non-insight peers and colleagues in a way that is understandable and has impact
  • Experience in developing predictive models within the commercial environment
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, with a real drive to see ‘test & learn’ approaches adopted
  • Comfortable asking difficult questions about how change or activity will be measured and what targets need to be achieved
  • Adept at interacting with stakeholders; highly personable
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Able to use data and insight creatively
  • Use of data analytics tools, platforms and coding languages such as Looker, Google BigQuery, DataRobot, SQL, R and Python
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint
  • Keen eye for detail with a genuine interest in understanding the journey data travels along
