Job Description

Our Corporate practice specialises in a broad range of offerings from corporate finance work encompassing all types of domestic, cross-border and multi-jurisdictional mergers and acquisitions, IPOs and secondary offerings, acting for investment banks, hedge funds, brokers and quoted clients, to private equity encompassing buy-outs, exits, portfolio management and public to privates.

The Corporate department is split into two groups:

Corporate M&A and ECM (CME)

    • Acting for corporate clients, management teams and individuals (both buy-side and sell-side) on a range of UK and international M&A transactions (Private M&A).
    • Advising bidders, target companies and financial advisers on the takeover of companies within the scope of the Takeover Code (Public M&A).
    • Acting for corporate issuers, investment banks, selling shareholders and management teams on a range of equity capital markets transactions (Equity Capital Markets).
    • Advising on various lifecycle events for both listed and private clients, and their group companies.

Private Equity & Financial Sponsors (PEFS)

    • Acting for institutional investors, founders, management teams and corporate clients on a range of UK and international private equity and M&A transactions.
    • Advising on various lifecycle events for financial sponsors and investee companies.



The Role

Reporting to the [Head of Department (HoD) and the Legal Operations Director], the Legal Operations Manager (LOM) plays a key role in ensuring the efficient and smooth running of a legal department. With a heavy focus on practice management, the LOM provides vital support to partners, liaising and coordinating with numerous stakeholders to ensure the department gets the support it needs to perform well, remain profitable and ensure teams are highly engaged.


Working closely with lawyers, from trainees to partners, helping them to understand the value in identifying and applying best practice and learning. Progressing projects and initiatives that relate to operational improvement, efficiency (both within matters and outside of matters), technology, profitability and communications.


Key Responsibilities

  • Business Management:
    • Provide direct operational support to the HoD and partner team, attending partner meetings; identifying, tracking and (where necessary) delivering actions and priorities.
    • Coordinate regular communications from HoD to the department, ensuring important information is easily understood and delivered in a timely manner.
    • Support workload allocation for the department, ensuring work is allocated fairly in the best interests of client service, client value and the professional development of people.
    • Lead the implementation of firmwide projects within department, ensuring change is delivered consistently and tailoring where necessary.
    • Meet regularly with key stakeholders including Knowledge, Business Development, HR, Business Change, Tech, and others, to ensure the department is getting the best support.
  • Community:
    • Support the wider Legal Operations team in ensuring the Legal Operations function is a high performing community of professionals, sharing best practice and supporting professional growth.
    • Contribute to the community of Legal Operations professionals both internally and externally, helping promote the firm's brand.
    • Support those starting out in Legal Operations careers so that they can learn, develop and enjoy a fulfilling career in the role.
  • Legal Operations:
    • Embrace a spirit of continuous improvement, utilising matter debriefs and collaboration to identify opportunities to improve efficiency.
    • In collaboration with Legal Operations and Legal Technology, implement new products and services that improve the efficiency and margin of legal services. Where possible use technology and low-cost resource to delegate or automate tasks that are historically difficult to recover effectively and/or are outsource.
  • Clients:
    • In collaboration with Business Development, understand client development plans.
    • Run 'end of matter' reviews, in collaboration with Business Development and Knowledge Lawyers, identifying lessons learned and turning into actionable outcomes.
    • Support Business Development in the planning and delivery of client listening exercises, implementing process improvement based on outcomes captured.
  • Strategy and Planning:
    • In collaboration with Business Development, Central Finance and HR, support the HoD with the preparation of annual business plans, where necessary coordinating the preparation of supporting data.
