The Role

The Research and Strategy team at CMR undertake research across the full range of technologies necessary to develop a complex mechatronic medical device platform. The AI Research Team are a diverse team of engineers, scientists and mathematicians working on novel solutions across machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, signal processing, statistics and control theory, to push the frontier in surgical robotics.We are looking for someone to join the team with experience and a passion for GPU-accelerated algorithms to develop the core infrastructure for real-time robotic surgery applications. We will consider applicants from early career to mid-senior level.

Responsibilities

• Develop GPU implementations of machine learning, deep learning and computer vision models to solve major challenges in surgical and robotic data science.
• Optimize GPU software for high processing efficiency, high throughput, and robust performance on advanced hardware platforms.
• Analyze existing algorithms and software for translation into GPU solutions.
• Prototyping hardware or software solutions for computer vision, graphics and virtual reality applications.
• Oversight of the full AI/ML life cycle from gathering of project requirements, to building, training, tuning, deployment and monitoring models.
• Owning, managing and delivering projects either as a technical lead or willingness to take responsibility and manage own time and tasks, dependent on level of seniority.  
• Presentation of new AI / ML solutions to stakeholders.

We’re a high growth company and roles can change and evolve. You’ll need to be willing to turn your hand to anything within the AI Research Team remit that supports the team with delivering its objectives.

About you

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to have/be:

• Academic or industrial expertise (5+ years) in GPU related solutions
• An enthusiasm for and experience of implementing GPU solutions for off-line or real-time machine learning, deep learning and vision models.
• Strong knowledge of C/C++ and the latest GPU platforms.
• Experience of AI / ML implementation on NVIDIA hardware and technology stack
• Experience with parallel programming, ideally CUDA C/C++.
• Track record of software design and good development practices, programming techniques, and AI algorithms.
• Capable of working with external collaborations to develop or evaluate real-time AI hardware or the latest GPU technology.
• Someone with a good team fit, with a willingness to learn from others and grow in the role.
• A degree (masters or PhD preferable) in a relevant discipline.

To AI Research Team work on many diverse projects. Experience or knowledge of any of the following may be beneficial too: 

• Experience using cloud platforms for AI / ML. We use AWS.
• Matlab and auto-code process
• Advanced/applied statistics
• Signal processing and/or data fusion
• Image processing
• Data engineering and/or ETL pipelines.
• Knowledge of MLOps
• Medical devices: AIaMD, SaMD, and EU/US regulatory processes
• Mentoring staff and knowledge transfer and capture.
