Why join us?

CMR is an exciting and evolving company to be joining right now.  Our commitment to our goal of building a world-class medical devices company is underpinned by the ground-breaking innovation of our next generation of surgical robots and a diverse team of talented and supportive individuals. Everyone at CMR has the passion and desire to make a real difference to the way minimal access surgery is developed and delivered.

We’re breaking new ground which makes working here exciting, it provides autonomy, opportunity and makes the things you do visible – if you’re great at managing your own time, are creative, patient and resilient, we think you’ll fit right in.

The Role

We have a fantastic role available for an experienced and innovative Human Factors Engineer with UX design experience to join our team in Cambridge, UK. This is a unique opportunity to help shape CMR’s state-of-the-art surgical robotics system through working closely with both a world-class team of engineers and with the healthcare professionals that will be using it. The role sits within the Usability Team at CMR and will involve working on a range of projects within the Technology Function.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out user research, concept generation and user testing to support product development needs
  • Support the development of user interfaces to improve user experience whilst at the same time considering the cost and manufacturability of the design
  • Support the wider human factors engineering efforts in CMR’s Technology Function
  • Help ensure Versius meets the needs of the Surgeons, Nurses and Healthcare Professionals who will work with it
  • Support the planning, delivery and reporting of formative and summative usability studies
  • Compile documentation in accordance with relevant regulatory requirements

We’re a high growth company and roles can change and evolve. You’ll need to be willing to turn your hand to anything within the Usability remit that supports the team with delivering its objectives.

About you

To join our world-class team, you’ll be an excellent team-player, comfortable working in a non-hierarchical environment and enthusiastic and just as keen as we are to produce a world-class medical product. We would also expect you to have an inquisitive nature, high attention to detail and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Specific skills and attributes we are looking for include:

  • Previous experience in working as part of a development team to meet human factors and usability objectives for medical devices
  • A track record of consistently producing valuable, well-written, deliverables containing solid and actionable recommendations
  • Ability to translate findings from user research into user interface design recommendations
  • The application of IEC 62366, FDA HF guidance and HE-75 in the development of medical devices
  • Strong interpersonal skills across a diverse range of engineering, clinical and business disciplines
  • A proven ability to synthesise information and distil it into meaningful actions
  • Attention to detail

It would also be helpful if you have:

  • Qualification in a field related to UX design or wireframe design, or equivalent experience
  • Applying human factors methodologies for MDR & FDA regulated medical devices
  • Development of risk management documentation (UFMEA) in line with ISO 14971
  • Working with complex electromechanical medical devices
  • The ability to effectively manage and prioritise competing needs

We recognise everyone has individual personal circumstances and are open to discussing reduced / flexible / hybrid working hours for this role.

The Package

We offer a competitive salary and a great benefits package including non-contributory pension, private healthcare and a bonus scheme. In addition, you’ll be joining a company with a fabulous culture of ambition, creativity and teamwork. CMR is committed to promoting a diverse, open and collaborative work environment – a place where we can be ourselves and succeed on merit. We believe an environment like this is where ideas can truly flourish and balanced with a healthy dose of fun, it ensures that our people stay and develop. We welcome applications to join our team from all qualified candidates, regardless of their characteristics.

Interested? We’d love to hear from you!
