Job Description

Why join us?

CMR is an exciting and evolving company to be joining right now.  Our commitment to our goal of building a world-class medical devices company is underpinned by the ground-breaking innovation of our next generation of surgical robots and a diverse team of talented and supportive individuals. Everyone at CMR has the passion and desire to make a real difference to the way minimal access surgery is developed and delivered.

We’re breaking new ground which makes working here exciting, it provides autonomy, opportunity and makes the things you do visible – if you’re great at managing your own time, are creative, patient and resilient, we think you’ll fit right in.

The Role

We’re looking for a talented and enthusiastic Software Engineer to join our team. This is an opportunity for you to develop your software skills in a high paced, dynamic and supportive environment. We use Agile methodologies to manage and prioritise our work and you’d be working with a growing team of experienced software engineers who would be keen to support and mentor you. We are responsible for the creation of software tools used during the deployment, monitoring and service of our minimally invasive Versius robotic surgery system in the field. The tools we create are a mixture of PyQt desktop applications and cloud-based web tools. We work closely with the rest of the Product Support team which is a diverse and multidisciplinary team spanning Electronic and Mechanical designers, Root Cause Analysis, Repair and the Tier 2 and Tier 3 support teams. This means you’ll have opportunity for exposure to a broad range of activities if that excites you – not just software! We are at a unique point in our company journey, as we look to design and build new software systems that allow the company to scale intelligently – the more robots we have in the field, the better our software products need to be to efficiently monitor and support them. We are looking for someone to join us to both help create and then deliver this vision. You will be a hands-on software engineer, who is able to take responsibility for design and delivery of our software tools with the support of the team around you.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Development of Python/Qt desktop apps for use by engineers in the field
  • Development of Python-based system health monitoring and diagnostic algorithms
  • Display of engineering and diagnostic data in web-apps (using e.g. JavaScript/React), leveraging our AWS (Amazon Web Services) cloud infrastructure
  • Working alongside the team to help define the overall direction, and the products that the team will develop

We’re a high growth company and as such roles change and evolve. We expect you to be willing to turn your hand to anything within the team’s remit that helps the team deliver its objectives.

About you

You will be able to demonstrate strong software development skills developed through industry experience, education or hobby interest. You will have a passion for developing great software and both learning and applying new skills.

The Package

We offer a competitive salary and a great benefits package including non-contributory pension, private healthcare and a bonus scheme. In addition, you’ll be joining a company with a fabulous culture of ambition, creativity and teamwork. CMR is committed to promoting a diverse, open and collaborative work environment – a place where we can be ourselves and succeed on merit. We believe an environment like this is where ideas can truly flourish and balanced with a healthy dose of fun, it ensures that our people stay and develop. We welcome applications to join our team from all qualified candidates, regardless of their characteristics.

Interested? We’d love to hear from you!
