The Role

This role reports to the engineering group team lead and will support the application development of the company’s novel adsorbent materials. This includes the design and execution of in-house and external testing of these adsorbent materials. This role will also entail working with diverse external stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of treatment systems.

The role is based in our London office but will require both local and overseas travel.


  • Work with the Product Development (PD) and Engineering (Eng) team to specify and define the end-use of different adsorbent media for various applications.
  • Design benchmarking experiments to test and characterise the performance of the media in various water scenarios at bench scale and pilot-scale. This includes batch and rapid small-scale column test methods.
  • Work with PD and Eng team to determine best process for media scale-up based on the required media particle size. This will require an understanding of the production process and the equipment needed.
  • Ensure all experiments and operating procedures are standardised and documented clearly, enabling repetition of testing protocols and scale-up from lab to pilot scale.
  • Produce technical reports, presentations and recommendations based on results and data analysis.
  • Produce documentation such as technical drawings, flow diagrams and P&IDs (including control philosophies both for pilot and full-scale end-to-end systems).
  • Support commissioning and operation of pilot plants at client sites.
  • Work with PD and Eng team to provide recommendations for full-scale implementation of the treatment process.
  • Perform Risk Assessments and/or Hazard analysis on both production scale-up processes and treatment processes.
  • Active promotion and continuous improvement of the company’s Health & Safety and Environmental policies/procedures for Engineering projects

About you

  • MEng/DEng in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or MSc/PhD in Environmental Science
  • Process engineering experience in a relevant industrial environment (either start-up at lab to pilot scale OR Scaling-up media production).
  • In-depth knowledge of conventional water filtration technologies (selection and design).
  • Well-developed understanding of technology R&D stages.
  • Strong organisation and prioritisation skills; able to multi-task efficiently.
  • Solid interpersonal skills; capable of building strong relationships with diverse colleagues and clients.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Detail oriented with a non-compromising approach for producing quality technical reports and presentations.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office suite, Engineering design/P&ID software (e.g. Visio), Mass balance software
